Credibility Analysis in Health Communities

Abstract

There has been an increasing number of people asking for medical advice or health-related opinions online. Forum members can provide answers quickly and at almost no cost compared to professional consultants but at a greater risk of being unreliable. In the context of healthcare and medicine, inaccurate information from untrustworthy members may cause serious hazards and must be taken with caution. In order to utilize the power of crowdsourcing on health communities, it is important to clearly define credibility and develop an approach to evaluate credible medical statements considering user trustworthiness, language objectivity, semantics, and thread structure.
