Kaz successfully organized the Doctoral Consortium at JCDL 2015 with Dr. Catherine L. Smith at Kent State University. This year, 9 Ph.D. students and 8 advisory panels from all over the world joined the consortium. Kaz, who was a visiting scholar at Pennsylvania State University January to May 2014, has achieved one poster and two full paper publications with Prof. Prasenjit Mitra (currently, Qatar Computing Research Institute and Hamad Bin Khalifa University) and his Ph.D. student, Siddhartha Banerjee. The research topic of the papers is abstractive summarization on multiple documents and meeting transcripts.

WING's Junchao and Gaoxiang part of the winning team of DBS Hackathon 2015! PDF Print E-mail

A team of four NUS Computing students won first place at the DBS Talent Conference Hackathon 2015 that was held at DBS Asia Hub in Changi Business Park, at the end of February. The event allowed developers from academic institutions, start-ups and the industry to collaborate with innovators within the DBS group to build useful mobile solution apps that address real business needs. Wang Gaoxiang (CS, Final Year) and Gu Junchao (CEG, Year 3) are part of WING and were part of the 4 students from NUS that were partnered with DBS staff. They beat the 12 other participating teams with their "Uber for household services" application and won $8000 and the opportunity to further develop and potentially launch their application with DBS.

In February 2015, Min gave an invited talk at the recent Mining Big Text workshop, as well as an encore presentation of the same at the BigComp invited session in Jeju Island, Korea. You can see the talk entitled "Serving the Readers of Scholarly Documents: A Grand Challenge for the Introspective Digital Library" on Speakerdeck.
