Congratulations to Dr. Jesse Prabawa Gozali, for defending his Ph.D. thesis entitled "Event Photo Stream Segmentation: Chapter-based photo organization for personal digital photo libraries" successfully on 7 August 2013!  Jesse has now gone on to work at Mobilewalla Incorporated.

Jin finally defended his Ph.D. thesis after many years of grueling hard work, in May.  Jin's thesis entitled "Towards Generic Domain-specific Information Retrieval" investigated how to make advances in domain-specific information retrieval without investing heavily in domain-specific knowledge engineering. Jin has been with WING since his undergraduate FYP and continues to stay on in SoC as a universally-liked instructor.  He's transitioned away from research and is now tackling the challenges of teaching software engineering and large lecture classes.  Congratulations Dr Zhao!

 
Jovian Lin's paper on app recommendation to be presented at SIGIR 13 PDF Print E-mail

Jovian's paper on app recommendation has been accepted for oral presentation at SIGIR '13.  His paper, jointly advised by Kaz, Min and Tat-Seng, will be presented in Dublin in July.  Congratulations, Jovian!

 
Kaz's paper wins Best Paper at JCDL13! PDF Print E-mail

Kaz's full paper at JCDL, entitled "Exploiting Potential Citation Papers in Scholarly Paper Recommendation" was awarded the Vannevar Bush Highest Scholarship Paper award.  The best paper recognition is great on its own but also carries a cash award.  Congratulations, Kaz!
