Michalis Vlachos is a Professor of Information Systems at the University of Lausanne, leading the “Big Data and Machine Learning” lab. He is actively researching topics in data science, machine learning, recommender systems, and information retrieval. Prior to his current position, he spent 15 years conducting industrial research at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory and at IBM Research in New York, and he also had a brief visit to Microsoft Research.
Michalis holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside, and an MBA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
His current research focuses on interpretable recommender systems and large-scale data processing. His work has been supported by a Marie-Curie IRG grant, an ERC Starting Grant and an E4S grant.
